In 2010, almost 39,000MW of new wind capacity was installed worldwide. Over the last ten years, the world’s cumulative installed capacity of wind power increased at an average annual growth rate exceeding 26%. According to the Global Wind Energy Council, the world’s wind power capacity will continue to grow at an annual rate of 18%.

Wind energy is a large and growing global market. It’s a market where PM generator technology will play a greater role in reducing the cost of energy generated by wind turbines, eventually making wind as competitive as today’s fossil fuelled power plants.

Distributed or on-site generation is typically employed at locations where there is a need for a power supply independent from the grid, or when cogeneration can make use of energy rejected by the generator set’s prime-mover.
